Veryfi API Terms – Starter Plan

    These terms cover developers using Veryfi’s API on our Starter plan (self-serve, pay-as-you-go).

    Starter vs Enterprise:

    • Starter: Self-serve signup, these online terms apply, no legalese contract needed
    • Enterprise: Custom pricing, dedicated support, and volume discounts – we’ll share a detailed contract with you that supersedes these terms

    If you upgrade to Enterprise or contact our sales team, we’ll send you a proper agreement tailored to your needs.

    1. What You Get

    API Access to:

    • Receipt OCR & data extraction
    • Invoice OCR & data extraction
    • Bank statement OCR
    • Document classification
    • 39 document types supported

    Starter Plan Includes:

    • 100 free API calls/month
    • Pay-as-you-go beyond that ($0.10/document)
    • Standard API support (email, docs)
    • Community Slack access

    2. How You Can Use the API

    Permitted Uses:

    • Integrate into your web or mobile app
    • Build internal tools for your company
    • Create customer-facing features using our API
    • Extract data from documents for your users
    • White-label the results in your UI
    • Offer as part of your commercial product (B2B2C is fine!)

    Example Use Cases:

    • Expense tracking apps
    • Accounting software integrations
    • Receipt capture in loyalty programs
    • Invoice processing for marketplaces
    • Document management systems

    3. What You Can’t Do

    Prohibited:

    • Resell raw API access (you can use results in your product, but can’t just pass through API calls)
    • Compete with Veryfi by offering standalone OCR APIs
    • Reverse engineer our models or algorithms
    • Scrape our documentation or training materials
    • Share your API keys with others
    • Exceed rate limits without upgrading
    • Use for illegal purposes
    • Use API to train AI models

    4. API Keys & Security

    You’re responsible for:

    • Keeping API keys confidential
    • All activity under your keys
    • Implementing proper security (HTTPS, key rotation, etc.)
    • Not exposing keys in client-side code or public repos

    Starter Plan Limits:

    • 100 requests/month included
    • $0.10 per document after that
    • 10 requests/second max
    • 1,000 requests/day max

    Overage Handling:

    • Auto-charged for overages
    • Upgrade to higher tier anytime for better rates
    • We’ll email you at 80% of monthly quota

    Need more? Enterprise plans get volume discounts and higher limits.

    6. Your Data & Our Data

    Your Documents & Results

    • You own all documents you submit and data we extract
    • We can use anonymized data to improve our models
    • We never share your specific documents or identifiable data
    • You can delete your data anytime via API or dashboard

    What We Anonymize & Use

    To make our OCR better, we may use:

    • Document images (with all PII removed)
    • Accuracy metrics across all customers
    • Common field patterns and layouts

    We remove: Names, addresses, amounts, account numbers, dates, business names, any identifying info

    Your Responsibilities

    • Get proper consent from your end users
    • Follow privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA etc.)
    • Don’t send us data you don’t have rights to process

    7. API Performance

    We aim for:

    • 99.9% uptime
    • < 3 second avg response time
    • Same-day support response (SLA dependent)

    We don’t guarantee:

    • Zero downtime (maintenance and life happens)
    • Perfect OCR accuracy (review important data)
    • Instant support (startup urgency support)

    8. Payment & Billing

    How Billing Works

    • See Pricing Page
    • Billed monthly in arrears
    • Charges auto-billed to your card

    Late Payment

    • If payment fails, API access pauses
    • You have 7 days to update payment
    • Data deleted if 90 days overdue

    9. Support

    Starter plan includes:

    Response times:

    • Bugs/outages: Same day
    • How-to questions: 1-2 business days

    10. Liability & Indemnification

    Our Liability

    Maximum liability: What you paid us in the last 12 months

    Not liable for:

    • Indirect or consequential damages
    • Lost profits or data
    • Your customers’ claims
    • Third-party service failures

    Your Responsibilities

    You’re liable for:

    • How your users use the API
    • Claims about data you send us
    • Violations of these terms
    • Your end users’ privacy violations

    11. IP & Ownership

    We own:

    • The API, models, algorithms, infrastructure
    • Our documentation and SDKs
    • Veryfi name and logo

    You own:

    • Your application
    • Your customer relationships
    • Data you send us

    You can:

    • Use extracted data the way you want
    • White-label our results in your UI
    • Say “Powered by Veryfi” (optional)

    You can’t:

    • Use our logo without permission
    • Claim you built the OCR technology
    • Claim that services not from us are our services
    • Reverse engineer our models
    • Use multiple accounts to obtain free or discounted services
    • Providing services that encourage others to violate these terms

    12. Changes & Termination

    Changes to Terms

    • We’ll provide you with a reasonable notice of major changes to the terms, whether through email or updating the terms here
    • Continued use means acceptance
    • Don’t agree? Cancel before changes take effect

    Canceling

    You can cancel anytime:

    We can suspend if:

    • You violate terms
    • Payment fails
    • Illegal/abusive use

    After Termination

    • API access stops immediately
    • Data available for 90 days
    • Outstanding charges still due

    13. The Fine Print

    Governing Law: California
    Disputes: San Mateo County courts
    Entire Agreement: This document is the whole deal
    Modifications: Via email notice (30 days)
    No Resale: Don’t just resell our API as your API
    Export Compliance: Don’t violate US export laws

    Need More?

    Upgrade to Enterprise if you:

    • Process >10,000 docs/month (better rates)
    • Need custom SLA or dedicated support
    • Want SSO, custom contracts, or invoicing
    • Need higher rate limits
    • Want phone support

    What happens when you upgrade:

    • We’ll send you a formal Enterprise Agreement to review and sign
    • That contract replaces these online terms
    • You’ll work directly with our sales team on custom pricing
