You know our mascot, right? If not, no worries — Vee is Veryfi’s mascot.
As Veryfi’s senior designer, I had the opportunity to help shape Vee from concept to fully-formed character. I wanted to translate our brand’s personality into something visual, expressive, and relatable. In my three years at Veryfi, I found it so rewarding to watch Vee evolve from early sketches into the face of our brand.
With a playful charm and clean design, Vee embodies the innovation and exploration at the heart of our brand. More than just a mascot, Vee is the living spirit of Veryfi, here to inspire and ignite connections with our audience at every touchpoint. But how did Vee come to be?
It Started with Research
I started this project the way I start any creative challenge: with research. To understand Vee’s creation we have to quickly step back to a time when Veryfi was called IQ Boxy.
When I asked our founders about the original mascot concept, they answered that it was all about humanizing boring tech. They wanted to show the idea of a monster chomping through receipts, like something straight out of Monster’s Inc. The idea of turning something as mundane as scanning receipts into something playful and alive was exactly the kind of thinking I wanted to carry forward. So I figured that if our founders could find magic in the everyday, then our mascot should too.

I then got to work mapping out the core tenets of the Veryfi brand as I understood them: exploration, innovation, speed, accuracy, and security. I could easily name symbols or characters that represent each of those qualities individually, but how could I combine them into one cohesive identity? Should I hold onto the original “monster” idea? How could I help Veryfi stand out in a competitive market?
With those questions as my compass, it was time to put pencil to paper.
Sketching It Out
With my research and a handful of questions, I started exploring. I looked at other brand mascots for inspiration and began sketching whatever came to mind when I thought about visually representing Veryfi’s personality.
Some early concepts emerged:
A Witty Rabbit: A nod to Veryfi’s speedy product and startup agility.
An Organic Friendly Blob: A softer, more approachable form that leaned into warmth and accessibility.
A Floating Cloud: A more literal “cloud tech” metaphor that felt polished and modern.

Yes, each of these ideas captured something real about what Veryfi stands for, but they all felt too singular. Veryfi isn’t just fast, or just approachable, or just tech-forward. It’s all of those things and more. Our brand is really an amalgamation of our products, our people, and our company’s vision.
No matter the direction I explored, I kept going back to a one-eyed alien reminiscent of IQ Boxy’s original idea. Thus, the beginnings of the Vee we know today was created.
Vee Emerges

From those early sketches, Vee’s personality took shape quickly. I envisioned a helpful, knowledgeable friend; a mascot that could bring joy and life to our brand rather than just serving as a logo element. What makes Vee especially versatile is their range of expression. With an array of emotions, Vee can add emphasis and life across all kinds of content and moments.
Vee shows up across our brand in dynamic ways and in many scenarios. Whether mapping out strategy over a chessboard, developing solutions through code, showing off their skating skills, or transforming ideas into art, Vee is constantly exploring, evolving, and growing (just like Veryfi).

Since Vee is a direct extension of our brand’s values, there are also some guidelines for how Vee shows up in the world. Vee would never be shown engaging in acts of violence, illegal activity, or anything nefarious. Vee is a positive force. A force that moves with speed and accuracy while keeping our users’ security at the forefront.
Vee Finds a Place in the World

In the two years since that first sketch, Vee has grown from a page in my sketchbook to the heart of Veryfi’s identity. Vee’s personality gives us a way to bring life to what could otherwise feel like cold, impersonal technology.
Since their debut, Vee has appeared on a billboard in Times Square, starred on a Wanted Poster for a charity event, come to life throughout our portal, and made appearances across all our social media channels.
And honestly? I’m looking forward to seeing Vee’s next adventure!
